MODULE 2 Determine Torque Values for Hydraulic Tubes/Fittings/Hoses

Determine Correct Torque Value for a HYDRAULIC TUBE ASSEMBLY (ref. AMM Chapter 20)
NOTE: The torque value information contained herein is not intended to supersede specific torque values called out for parts at certain locations in the AMM, on Boeing drawings, or on other official documentation.
1.First, find the tube material, tube size and end fitting details for the tube assembly. The tube material, size, wall thickness, tube end fitting P/N and tube end fitting material(s) need to be known before determining the correct tightening torque. Detailed tube assembly definition data, such as tube alloy, size, wall thickness, end fitting P/Ns, etc., are not always available to operators from the IPC, or even REDARS. This is because tube assemblies are designed in a separate computer system and the digital definition data are not automatically passed along to the IPC, REDARS or other Boeing document available to operators.
NOTE: Computer bend data for hydraulic tubes are considered to be Boeing proprietary information and are not available for outside distribution. However, it is possible to use available resources to determine tube material, size and end fittings.
1. First, find the tube material, tube size and end fitting details and materials for the tube assembly (continued):

Review the 801 series pages of the Airplane Maintenance Manual (AMM) to find the following information about the tube material and end fittings for tube P/N 272A1553-47: A table showing the standard tube materials, related procurement specifications, tube diameters and wall thicknesses used for hydraulic tubes on Boeing airplanes. The tube materials and respective outside diameters/wall thicknesses listed in the table include 3AL-2.5V titanium, 21-6-9 corrosion resistant steel (CRES) and 6061-T6 aluminum. For the example tube P/N 272A1553-47, the information is covered in Table 814* of 737NG AMM 20-10-51/801 (see illustration on next slide). The tube material is 3AL-2.5V titanium, Size 6 with wall thickness of 0.019 inch, per specification AMS4945.
